You don't have to be a doormat to keep your wife happy. This isn't an either/or thing. If it is, you married an abusive wife, and that's another situation. If you married an abusive or psychopathic woman, you'll be miserable regardless of whether or not you try to keep her happy.
If you used your upper brain to pick out a good women to propose to, you can still keep your wife happy while standing your ground on the battles that are important. I'll give Bill credit there; as in all relations (friends, family, romantic), you have to pick your battles.
If you married a good women and you can't keep her happy, then something is wrong with you.
