When scripture says the life of a thing is in the blood, it was literally telling us that when our first parents sinned, the life they once had became death and that condition resided in their blood. Humanity was contaminated with death which passed from father to son or daughter throughout the ages by way of the transfer of blood. It's why sin is so endemic to the human nature. Then came Jesus the Christ who was spared from that contamination because of His virgin birth and who lived a sinless life. When His blood was shed, it became the purest blood transfusion available to deliver humanity from the curse of death. When we receive Him, we receive also His blood, we get cleansed and we receive His life. No wonder it is written that in Him was the Life and His Life was the light of men.
