Pat needs to do stand up
I can definitely relate to this as someone that used to do songwriters' open mic. You have one moment where you forget the lyrics or the next chords, and it sticks with you. It becomes "Oh shit, what if it happens again", and it really affects your ability to do that shit in front of any crowd of strangers. I don't even play for people anymore. I can sit on my porch with my guitar and play my songs perfectly (in my mind, anyway), but if I show up somewhere with a guitar and someone says, "Play us a song", it never goes well. I'll have to stop in the middle of a song because I lose the words, or the chords, or the rhythm. I immediately become self-conscious of what I'm doing in the moment, whereas I used to just lose myself in the moment and not worry about it. Sometimes if you fuck up something once, you'll think you're gonna fuck it up forever, and that's enough to fuck you up.
