Dude- why dissing on cds? Do you not realize that streaming music is crap? They compress the hell out of the audio and distort the original studio recordings. The cd preserves the audio as it was originaly recorded in a way that a streaming file never can. That is why cds are important and always will be. I still buy all my music on cd. Support physical media! Own. Preserve. Support
95% of artist with music on streaming services, specifically Spotify, make $1,000 or less a year with about 80% of that making less than $200 a year because of how Spotify is structured. The method Patrick is talking about where you monthly fee goes to just the people you listen to is the way to go. Other platforms like Soundcloud are now using that. Spotify will probably have to change to this or more musicians will gravitate to Soundcloud or others. Spotify keeps 30% of the pot for expenses, the labels take around 55% of which they pay their artists but keep most of it because they are pricks and the other 15% goes to Indie artists who make up most of the music on the platform. That's one major reason we just don't make any money from streams.
That was probably the longest time I heard someone rant on JRE without being a scientist and is was wonderful
Fast forward to 2023 and theaters are barely hanging on and Joe is on Spotify…
Just seen the Playlist series on Netflix, about Spotify. I was so unaware of this situation but is really Spotify (& streamers) the problem or the solution? I think it's the solution.
