Invalidation is an easy tool for hateful people that wish to be discriminatory.

Hi, my name is FthemCloud and I am an autism activist.
I came out as autistic after being rejected from a cult I was in for speaking rudely.
Autism is a social and communication disability and it is ablism to invalidate it in any way.
It is real, it is difficult to live with, it is different in females. Autistics often make very skilled actors. Autistics, especially being high, might talk like they are high. Autistics say controversial things and it is ok.
We require extra understanding.

There are a lot of famous people that are patently on the autism spectrum (mild end of it to be sure). I think they don't want to be open about it the way this celebrity (roseanne barr) is because it will trivialise the struggles of those with an asperger brain, much like all the celebrities coming out as having axiety/depression has trivialised the struggles those people have (while at the same time helping reduce stigma of course). Of course in addition they'll be those famous autists that share that superiority complex that some autists in the non-famous population have that causes them to think they have something that can only be conceptualised as a gift – and why would you be open about/come out as having a gift, as if it was a disability. But on the whole, I think the famous autistic spectrum people just don't want the detrimental notion of "we're all somewhere on the spectrum" to gain any further traction in popular consciousness, and they're afraid that coming out on masse (as we've seen with anxiety/depression celebs) will inadvertantly cause this. What's interesting to me is that many of these patent famous autists are also among the celebs that have been open about having anxiety/depression, such as: Kate Bush, Nicole Kidman, Charlotte Rampling, Kristen Stewart.
