  1. Does anyone think that religon gets a bad image because people relate to it like the people that wrote it, from an old perspective, rather than a modern approach?

Think of how everything evolves, if in our current age we related to cars like we related to the first cars then the car would have never evolved, we saw things that needed to be fixed as we evolved different ways of looking at the car, and we fixed them, made them better.

FYI, I am not a theist or an atheist, just trying to shed a little light.

Of course some people in certain ancient text did horrible things, but times were different then. Someone believed that a promiscuous woman was a sinner in the past and called her crime lust and the reason she was downtrodden was because she spread venereal disease so someone had to call lust a sin so others didn't commit the heinous act and pollute the breeding pool in a small village, which makes sense.

So lust was demonized, made to appear as a sin, something which would keep you from the light of the deity or love of your neighbors if you dared to be promiscuous. This was an attempt to keep smaller populations clean of certain things since medicine was so poor back then for certain ailments.

Now we don't call things like lust sin because we see the world in a different light, we have modern medicine and so it doesn't have to be demonized.

  2. First off, this segment is among the little things i know about Richard Dawkins, i didn't watch the entire podcast. Although i see and understand a lot of his points, it feels like his vision of religion, believers and perhaps Islam seem misconstrued and he sounds very opinionated. Like he sees believers as lost people sheltered in ridiculous religious ideas. Kinda makes me think of the religious people you debate with that don't think your opinion is just different, but is wrong and a result of propaganda, but he's an atheist. Maybe it's just me but i don't think it's condusive to healthy conversations between atheists and believers. He looks and conversates like a respectable man nonetheless.
