  1. It’s not that atheists are immoral. It’s a sociological question, if you look at Christianity its morality is similar to those put forward by Plato in later life. We know what morality is, it can exist independently from Christianity as philosophy but the question then is once you do have a functional morality that leads to a stable society how do you ensure people obey that morality. Religions answer to that is to suggest that you are always being watched and will be judged by your actions one day, it’s essentially just philosophy with a deity. I think based on this the reason people see atheists as immoral is that they don’t fear judgement and without that there’s less reason to be “good”. Like it or not, people are drawn to vice rather than virtue. You’re more likely to be greedy than charitable, more likely to be lustful rather than chaste, and more likely to demonstrate wroth over patience. Christians call that original sin and accept that as part of themselves and then are supposed to follow Christ’s teachings to embrace virtue. Not all do, and the faith itself is a man made system so it’s prone to corruption, but the thinking is that love of Christ or fear of Gods punishment will make you colour inside the lines. An atheist of course can be a good person, presumably most are, but it’s that freedom to colour outside the lines I’m guessing that gets them branded immoral. Anyway, thanks for reading. God Bless.
