Hunter Gatherers aren't this one thing where you can take observation of one group and extrapolate it to every other one including many extinct cultures. For example, there are signs of inegalitarian behavior in Upper Paleolithic cemeteries, so at least some of the cultures involved there wouldn't have been egalitarian.
In addition, 150 isn't a cutoff, but the cutoff is certainly below 1000. Settlements with population sizes far exceeding that begin to appear in the Neolithic, possibly implying a different mode of social association/disconnection from other people in the settlement.
