I think the preexisting thought was “bad people are born bad, they are just not right in the head, they’re crazy.” But this movie without saying anything showed you “bad people aren’t born bad, or born crazy, they are made crazy.” And we are all contributing to that downfall. You wanna make a society that rewards people for being smart? You’re gonna punish people who are dumb. Reward people for being good looking? Ugly people will suffer. Reward those who “stay in line” and you push those who challenge old ways of thinking.
And eventually there are people who are all three of those. Add on top some terrible childhood traumas. They will be the ‘losers’ of society, the outcasts…and one day they are gonna turn on you and say ‘fuck you, fuck this world you’ve created, it’s broken, and me and all my friends know it. And we are about to show you just how fucked up our world is by fucking up your world.’
The actions of the downtrodden are usually quiet, sad, miserable and desperate. And we get to just ignore that. But sometimes they are vengeful, chaotic, deranged, and ugly. Not because they were born that way, but because this society has no place for them. So they find a way to shake up the game, and they suddenly have power and it’s thrilling. Suddenly they are in control for the first time ever, and they aiming for revenge on all those pretty little people that quietly hated them.
A masterpiece outstanding Movie
It’s an allegory on mental health. And how society views people with mental health problems. Basically saying there’s not a lot of help for you if you have mental problems.
The joker wasn't a murderer. Most true murderers never physically killed anyone or served time in prison. Message of movie was, "Only the Truth can set you free".
If you call Joker disturbing, then either you haven't watched many movies, or too sensible, or fell prey to marketing campaign. Watch Hereditary if you want disturbance, for fuck's sake.
