  1. A lot of false claims. Muay Boran is how Thais practiced before the king asked for a reform as a sport with rules in the late 1920". The truth is Burmese learned their Lethwei from the Thai!!
The story of the prisoner of war Nai Khanom Tom (just the year when the Burmese could finally defeat the Thai kingdom of Ayuthaya) tells that the Burmese king was so impressed that he could defeat all of his best fighters that he released him back to his people. Burmese were documented to fight mostly with their fists (and the traditional long pants still seen today) before that era. As a proof, French, English and even Chinese documents dating prior the Burmese invasion relate the Thais practicing a brutal recreational boxing with occasional deaths. Head butts and even wrestling are even mentioned! The Burmese learned Lethwei from the Thais after they could take over control of Ayuthaya, it's a fact. The difference is, Thai modernized their art in the late 1920s to make it a national sport. The Burmese kept a "closer to the original form" of the art they had received from the Thais for their sport. Historical accuracy is needed here.

  2. Muaythai is only a recent invention comparatively to muay boran and lethwei. Colonial rules in surrounding nations, Siam was forced to westernise many things to avoid an invasion including Muaythai by adopting western rings, gloves, time limit and so on, leading to the development of the marching style you see today.

Muay boran took stuff from lethwei, predal serei and other foreign styles and laid the foundation. Myanmar was under the British, martial arts were heavily restricted to avoid a rebellion
