I think people's understanding of Aikido, FMA, Silat, Wing Chun, Krav Maga, and even KFM are wrong in terms of completely dismissing their functionality.
They do not function as a foundational discipline independently. But I don't think that's enough to dismiss their practicality just because they cannot function in isolate.
They are accessory disciplines that can actually function quite well when someone has a foundational striking and grappling discipline.
If someone who has been boxing and doing greco roman wrestling their whole life randomly starts drilling passive aikido moves. I'm pretty sure that guy will make aikido work.
Except Meada had nothing to do with Aikido, Aikido wasn't founded until 1939.
