"take anybody out" in regards to aikido You cannot beat physics. The fact is if you come towards someone with energy and you DONT MOVE THE WAY they direct you YOURE gonna walk away with a broken wrist and or arm or both. Our bones are not meant to bend the way Aikido moves them in regards to redirects.
99% of the people who attack someone with no training and someone has Aikido training that person is going to walk away semi injured. The people posting about how it's useless in a real fight. Aikido people are not looking for fights ROCKY V style.
Useful scenarios
* Someone rushes you to try and grab your wallet, keys, maybe even gun
* Someone rushes you and or attacks with a large knife or sharp blunt object.
Which if you look at America is almost all attacks minus ones with firearms in which case No amount of training in any martial art is going to "block bullets'
Our society at least here in America is trying to Pair other aggressive or offensive Martial arts against Aikido and that is the mistake. I would bet everything I own if anyone took Aikido for simple maybe 6-12 months and practiced Aikido kotegaeshi movement. Had kotegaeshi down to T any person trying to throw a jab, straight punch , hook, uppercut would walk away with a broken wrist or arm. Assuming the assailant is "untrained and just some drunk at a bar" or some random person on the street.
At the end of the day…does it really matter? If Aikido is not effective that is fine. No one is forcing you or your friends or family to take it. You are in control of your life and welcome to take whatever martial arts class you want.
Lets be honest… I seriously doubt Norton has ever been in a real fight… and yes aikido is a fucking joke.
Yeah aikido is worth training definitely,
AS long as you take it with a grain of salt
Because to be real about it, aikido techniques will only work in very very specific situations
So the whole point just isnt to be able to fight
It's about the art
It is not a combat sport just to make that clear
As someone who has trained both aikido and muai tai for 7 years I definitely agree with people that say some aikido clubs are like cults because they will say it's a viable combat sport against MMa
Which is just not true because that goes against the whole reason why aikido exists because to get into that situation you have to be looking for a fight which is pretty much the exact opposite of what O,sensei tought.
