  1. I thought it was fine.

I think why most people didn't like it is because it moved really fast which was in stark contrast to the previous 6-7 seasons. They wanted that final season to be drawn out to excruciating detail like the rest of the series was so when they got a final season that kicked the plot into 4th gear and rode the nitrous the whole time, it overwhelmed a lot of its audience. Just major characters and major plotlines start falling like dominos one after another in quick succession, there's no let up to catch your breath. That, to me, is why I liked it so much. One big epic climax that lasts an entire season to end an epic TV series.

A lot of people mention The Sopranos finale. It's amazing how time changes peoples' perception of things and have seem to have forgotten that The Sopranos ending was not initially well liked either. The whole open-ended ending, not knowing exactly what happened to Tony after the screen faded to black in that diner and leaving the ending up for interpretation to the viewer was not a universally loved ending at all. People did not like the fact they didn't get a definitive conclusion and only recently now that some time has passed is it being more accepted and liked for being a rather brilliant ending really. I think the Game of Thrones finale and final season will see something similar happen where over time people will begin being more accepting of it once the initial shock wears off which I feel is already starting to happen 4 years after now.

I think there's a wide gap between the people that actually truly didn't like the ending and people that didn't like the ending because that's what most other people thought and they don't want to be left out.
