Decriminalization doesn't mean that you can buy it from reputable sources, that's my interpretation of it anyway. It just means that you are ok to have drugs in your possession.
I have a friend that goes to the methadone clinic and they take insurance now that's a move in a positive way
You legalize or decriminalize to fool the addict into treatment. This is strait out of the AA's 12 steps. You can lie to an addict to get them into treatment in some cases. Heroin and opioid addicts fit this bill. Some drugs you should be able to use at home, but opioids have to be in supervised injection facilities. They OD and go right into treatment. I believe they need 2-5 years in a rehab & occupation training facility. This way the addict goes home with some job skills.
I am a proponent of drug legalization. The tax money from cocaine alone will be enough to build huge medical facilities and lots of supervised injections facilities. All of the regular cocaine users in the country will not be getting poisoned anymore with dirty cut from drug dealers.
Ben is spot on and knowledgeable. It is a soft compromise. Nobody wants to think about drug legalization, but it is the best way to clean up this problem that has plagued mankind for 100's of years. We have every drug trafficking group in the world with the American street drug market in mind. We are such a target. Canada too. The Chinese learned their lesson in the Opium Wars and in the Vietnam War. They have been pumping out drugs ever since. The Communist Chinese and Vietnamese took over the heroin markets and were selling directly to the Italians after the Fall of Saigon 75'. I believe the Coup in Myanmar was over the new Civilian leader trying to shut down the Golden Triangle, Chinese owned precursor factories. They burned one down during the Coup.
