The problem with journalism isn't necessarily the journalist falsifying a source, it's more about the integrity of the source and the process of what happens to information from original primary source to what's published. Read Manufacturing Consent by Noam Chomsky for more. When it comes to Trump and "fake news," he's exploiting something that has some truth to it in certain situations, and turning that into "all news that reports something negative about me is fake." This is clearly untrue, and its right out of the Mussolini playbook. But it's an example of broader tactic Trump uses to engender support (taking something with a kernel of truth to it and expanding it into a false narrative which benefits him).
