I think lovely is not the word I would use. Since God sent an evil spirit to torment Saul and orchestrated for David to soothe Saul, he created a dependence of Saul on David. So Saul had to depend on David's music to gain freedom from the evil spirit's torment.
Perhaps it was a way for God to humble Saul's arrogance and stubbornness.
My college pastor and favorite lead singer say they believe the universe was sung into existence. The first seven days of creation was a song by God and life is the dance with the music!

King Saul was soulless and pretending. He never had the lord with him. You can't understand what you read. King Saul was tormented with ego that stripped away his humanity. The kingdom was mismanaged and one of the signs was David needing to kill Goliath. God sent David to usurp Saul and have an heir. Those who are soulless and weak will fantasize that person would know their purpose instead of discovering it. So David had to figure out Saul was soulless. If he knew from birth he would have been labeled a traitor for wanting to kill the king. Soulless types have fantasies of magic and knowing beforehand because they have no experience being in God's grace and never will know since they have true death where they die and stop existing after their biological functions cease. That's because they only exist for the sins of their father Satan
