I have a theory. Maybe the reason why there is no anaconda like snakes in the Kongo as opposed to the Amazon could be as simple as ambulation. For a large snake, getting around in water is a lot easier than traversing dense jungle. Managing energy expenditure at the cost of calories is a huge factor in survival for any species. Just spit balling here.
