God damn! The mechanism is too simple! This can be weaponised!
Imagine some goverment putting millions of bucks into researching other molecules that can be used to trigger the same "off switch" on the hippocampus, but with limited anounts of the other side effects of being drunk.
You would have a serum that you could give to someone just before an important event, to make sure that afterwards, they dont remember anything that happened in that event!
This could be used to disrupt foreign intellegence, cover up abuses of power, cheat lie detector tests, framing people for murder, etc!
Its weird hearing people talk about getting black out drunk like its an odd thing. like doesnt everybody drink until that point

Remember the drinking age in most states used to be 18 until MAAD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) led the effort to raise it. As evidenced it in their name this change was effected in an attempt to lower drunk driving accidents among teenagers. A distinction between the US and Europe in this regard is car culture in the US. Most European teenagers do not drive as young, as often or as far as US teenagers. Can't compare apples to oranges.
