What it boils down to is "discipline" disciplining one's flesh, disciplining one's mind, remember..it grieved God that he had made man in flesh cuz he knew of the weaknesses of the flesh, this is why Jesus came to sacrifice himself for sin, cuz God knew we wouldn't be able to get it done in the flesh, but it boils down to discipline people, one of Satan's first temptations on Christ was that concerning the flesh, he knew Jesus had fasting for 40 days and 40 nights and that the flesh was hungry, so coming out the gate he tempted him with the cravings of the flesh which was food, when you fall short repent,
