  1. Kelly Slater is right, we r being divided and conquered in America today and we 100% don't realize it.
Edit: joe has an interesting blend of intelligence and curiosity. Really helps me as a fan.
#2) the other part of what they're talking about is that it's not just what u search on YouTube. Siri, alexa r always👂and then they contribute that to your algorithm.
#3) we need regulation to catch up to the internet the way publishing was regulated to reign in yellow journalism. Not to the degree of state control but, it's the wild west right now.

  2. Well maybe there is a bigger shift now or in the age of the internet, but building up narratives and blatant propaganda were always part of the media. thats not new. the way it is monetized, the way it is targeted to certain audience with way ore precision through highly advanced algorithms and of course the scale of it. the reach is immense coompared to more traditional forms of media. if the book is more about that, that would be more interesting than the notion that this is somehow completely new and wasnt a thing before. I dont buy that. What is definetly a bigger problem is fact checking because if you dont report on something as soon as it gets out, well someone else will. That wasnt a thing because you could not just start pressing a whole new issue of your newspaper and there was no 24 hour news stations aroound. Sure if something really big and important happened, there would be a different issue for a day printed or a programm would be interrupted to report on the event, but now what has become import is defined by what you can sell as such. Now everything is important. Doesnt matter if its about war or the Kardashians.
