A bunch of bands have great hits but they hate to play them. Nirvana was one of them with smells like teen spirit
Queens are my favourite band, hands down. The Cure and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds come close, sure, but Queens just keep nailing it every time. What I love most is how they change from one album to the next. Yeah, SFTD was absolutely f***ing amazing. I agree, 100%. But the fans who moan that "the new album doesn't sound like SFTD"… Well, here's an album for you – It's called STFU.
You wanna hear an album that sounds like SFTD? Cool. Go to your turntable/cd player / mp3 player / itunes or whatever, and play SFTD. Fill your boots. I still listen to it a lot, even after 20 years it still sounds absolutely bloody brilliant.
But here's the thing – If Queens had said to themselves, "You know what, we need to make an album that sounds like our first one, or Rated R" then SFTD would never have happened. That album only exists because they demanded progress.
That's why anytime someone asks me what is my favourite Queens album, the answer is always the same, but always different too. Because they always re-invent themselves with each new album, but play the way they love, each new album sounds completely brand new, but is also instantly recognizable as them. My favourite album a year ago was Villains, but my favourite album now is ITNR. And when they put out their next album, that will be my favourite.
That's what makes them so goddamn great. They evolve.
Josh Homme is a living legend
I've listened to GO WITH THE FLOW like a millions time and every time its like the first time i listen to it
I am into dance music, primarily uk house, garage and drum and bass, but queens of the Stone Age has always resonated with me. Song of the Dead and No One Knows are two of the greatest songs ever made imo. Nothing but love for Josh
