Man, Jordan looks so stressed in this video. So glad he's doing much better these days.

I respect his intelligence and genuine concern for these issues…but folk here should not unquestionably believe what he says about the left. A very important point, which i am surprised such a smart person as Peterson will reduce to such crude cliches is the marxism/communism of the 20thC. It was NOT real marxism. This is true statement, and something the right should stop harping on about, because its silly to keep saying it was Marxism, when it was quite clearly not. The right shouldn't rely on such falsehoods to make its claims. Here are some points backing up the idea that Stalin's Russia or Mao's China was not the marxism/communism/socialism of the 19thC ideals:
In the case of any country calling itself communist we can set some clear criteria (which will not be shifted evasively) and say: did they meet A,B,C central criteria for being called communist?
For Russia and China then the answer is no. They didn't tick the boxes, they fail the test. Therefore, they were not communist.
A comparison is someone SAYING they are a nurse and you asking:
A. do you have a nurses qualification? -NO
B. do you work currently as a nurse? – NO
C. do you agree to try to help sick people? – NO
Test failed, you are not a nurse.
The fact that they might still insist (loudly and violently) they are a nurse, have a blue uniform and a badge that says ‘nurse’ does not make them a nurse.
That you continue to believe they are a nurse, when they fail the clear test, is simply flying in the face of logic and facts.
And people AT THAT TIME were already saying its not communism.
Even right in the middle of the Russian revolution some people saw that this would not be the kind of communism they wished, that things were going wrong: "It is vital to form a socialist govt from all the parties of the Soviet…we consider that a purely Bolshevik govt has no choice but to maintain itself by political terror. We cannot follow this course." This was noted by a moderate communist in Russia, late 1917.
Noam Chomsky has noted: “In the stages leading up to the Bolshevik coup in October 1917, there were incipient socialist institutions developing in Russia — workers' councils, collectives, things like that. And they survived to an extent once the Bolsheviks took over — but not for very long; Lenin and Trotsky pretty much eliminated them as they consolidated their power.”
Or later during the Spanish Civil War the Soviet controlled communist party was so authoritarian and anti-revolution that some sarky bugger coined the slogan ‘Vote communist and save Spain from Marxism!’
So, if it was known even at the time that this was at best a perverted version of communism, a kind of state dictatorship…. then why have you not learned that yet? You’ve had a long time to work it out!
