Joseph is also the reason there are 13 tribes of Israel. When Jacob who became known as Israel found that his son Joseph was alive and in charge of all Egypt and had two sons, he was so happy that he took the two sons of Joseph and gave them full inheritance, giving Joseph double the blessing, one for each son who became large and powerful tribes. In other words, the tribe of Joseph became 2 tribes, one for each of his sons. The 12 tribes of Israel are 13 tribes.
