In long term, Lazar is making a good difference, but in the short term, and in his immediate family, he is hurting everyone around him.
At 1:18:35, if Lazar knew more than he does, he would not be alive I suspect. The stakeholders would have taken him out.
At 1:14:35 or so, archaeology, and the old age of the craft is exactly what we see in the Man of Steel first film, where the craft is found buried under many miles of ice. Now think about what Brandon Fugal has sort of seen under the mesa at Skinwalker Ranch.
The reason why the technology is allowed to remain in your custody is because you can't decipher it. Not for a very long time. So it isn't a threat. And the craft are just research/science craft, so you can't get weapons from them that will be impactful.
An admiral claiming the ability to access classified information, he should have elevated the issue as high as he could. What was the result?
