  1. Sorry, I put this response on the wrong podcast. I was looking for your latest with Adam Curry, #1930. I'm going to post over there, but just leaving this here for whoever might be interested.
Joe, Jesus did address this. Talking to skeptics of his day, the Pharisees, John chapter 5:

"If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.
But the works which the Father has given me to finish, the same works I do, bear witness of me, that the Father has sent me." Again, in chapter 8:13 "The pharisees said, You bear witness of yourself. Your record is not true." There's more there, you can read his answer for yourself. But I like this one in Jn 10:37 because it's pretty definitive. "If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. But if I do, though you believe not me, believe the works, that you may know and believe that the Father is in me, and I in him."
That's the evidence that was offered by Jesus to all his skeptics.
The Works…people are quick to point out the resurrection, but the works he was speaking of were the ones they'd already seen, his miracles. Believe in him because his miracles proved he was from God, because, like the blind man he healed in John 9:32 said, "Since the world began, it was not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind. If this man were not of God, he could do nothing!"
If you're thinking, the miracles sound good, but how do I know that they actually happened? Remember that the people he was talking to were not reading about it in a book. He was offering the proof of his miracles to those who had seen them openly. You could doubt that the account is true, but couldn't you say that about any evidence that's presented to you? The proof isn't in the text. It's in the doing.
And just like that, the greatest evidence you could have is when God meets you personally because you believe in Jesus. There is a God behind these words that backs them up.

  2. Joe, I had that question, and many others answered coming into Christianity.
To prove Jesus was the Son of God is easy. It's because He said He was.
And it's because He said He was the Son of God that the religious leaders chose to have him served up to be put to death for it. They wanted Him to be labeled as a liar, or a lunatic. But He's Lord.
Had the liar or the lunatic label stuck, He would never have been put on a cross.
And everyone of His disciples died similar and worse deaths.
If anyone of them didn't 1,000% believe He was who He said He was, do you think in their right mind they would have kept making more disciples for years until they too were put to death for it?
You or I wouldn't have, and neither would they have.
