I remember the cheating thing they were saying about Tony, what a joke. I skated then and I wish I'd learned that cheat style!
Very interesting interview. If you have him on again sometime- can we hear more about his family life? Present and his early family life.
Vert skating wasn't "not cool" due to street skating taking over. I'm amazed Tony is dumb enough to have said that. The reason street skating took over was that literally ONLY people in california had access to skate parks and vert ramps, but the rest of the country could at least find a bench or a parking garage somewhere.
I spent almost 10 years in LA before I moved to North County in October 2019 – found out the pandemic was real in March 2020, got to ride it out here in SD. Have spent a lot of time in Carlsbad in the last decade or so, grew up aaaaaallll the way down the hill from San Diego in the Imperial Valley π. North County SD! Sweet episode, I've always had skaters in my life & I was a baby while skateboarding was becoming something. ππΌπ
I love how Tony says "yeah I got the same" and actually really acts like it, when Joe compares Jamies hairline tailbone fractur from a hoverboard fall to his sheared pelvis and fractured skull while attempting to go through a sketchy 15-feet-high loop ramp in a monkey costume ^_^
