Not to be "ruffle anyone's feathers", the first use of "make" was not at Genesis 1:26, but at Genesis 1:7, whereby the Hebrew word asah, meaning "to do or make", is used and then again at Genesis 1:16, 25, 26, 31. When God made ' man in his image ' (Gen 1:26), what did this mean ?
That man had the capability of understanding justice, having godly wisdom, what genuine love (or agape love) means as God sees it (John 3:16, 17), whose name is Jehovah.(Isa 12:2, KJV), so that mankind would deal fairly and justly with each other, giving each other dignity and taking care of the earth as Jehovah deemed.
So, for a person to be made fully in "God's image", they have to do as Jesus said, quoting from Isaiah 54:13, that "it is written in the Prophets: ‘They will all be taught by Jehovah.’ Everyone who has listened to the Father and has learned comes to me."(John 6:45)
When a person seriously looks at Jesus perfect example, in which he is "the Chief Agent and Perfecter of our faith"(Heb 12:2), they find that it paved with much tribulation.(Acts 14:22) Those who measure up to being one of Jesus genuine disciples will have to do this: "Exert yourselves vigorously to get in through the narrow door (to life everlasting), because many, I tell you, will seek to get in but will NOT be able."(Luke 13:24)
Jesus established that gaining Jehovah's favor would be like getting through an extremely narrow door, because his moral standards are so high that the vast majority of those who profess to be Christian are unwilling to reach for them, taking considerable effort to strip off the "old personality" ("old man", KJV) and then put on the "new personality" ("new man", KJV) that imitates Jehovah.(Col 3:9, 10)
How many who profess to be Christian are doing what Jesus said at Matthew 28: "Go, therefore, and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them (by means of home Bible studies or wherever is convenient) to observe all the things I have commanded you" ?(Matt 28:19, 20)
How many are willing to go "from house to house" with "the good news of the Kingdom" ?(Matt 24:14; Acts 20:20) How many are "no part of the world" (John 15:19), with its politics and false religious system, and whereby the greedy commercial system (called "the merchants of the earth" at Rev 18:11) cozy's up to Christendom and its Christmas, knowing that they will reap handsomely ?
So, if a person is to be fully ' made in God's image ', then they have to do as Jesus commanded, for he said: "Whoever disregards me and does not receive my sayings has one to judge him. The word that I have spoken is what will judge him on the last day (that began in 1914). For I have not spoken of my own initiative, but the Father who sent me has himself given me a commandment about what to say and what to speak. And I know that his commandment means everlasting life. So whatever I speak, I speak just as the Father has told me.”(John 12:48-50)
