  1. Oto Benga was born in 1883, a Mbuti pygmy male from the Congo region of Africa. The average height of an African pygmy male is 4’11”. Cannibalism was rife in his culture. His teeth were chiseled in his culture to be pointed. He had a wife & children. His family was killed by Belgian soldiers. At age 21, horrifically, he was purchased by an American missionary & brought to Louisiana to be on exhibit. At age 23, in 1906, he was brought to the Bronx zoo & slept in the monkey house as part of a zoo exhibit. Many people protested the inhumane treatment of him. Rev. James Gordon was so upset about it, that he paid for him to be freed from the zoo; capped all of his teeth; taught him English & purchased business suits for him to wear so that he’d be able to secure a regular-paying job as a free man. Oto found a job in a tobacco field. He saved up his money to be able to return back to his homeland in Africa. But in 1914, World War I broke out and transcontinental passage was obstructed. Oto was so distraught & depressed to learn that he couldn’t return home to the Congo—that at age 32 in 1916, he chipped off all of his capped teeth & shot himself in the heart. He is buried in an unmarked grave.

  2. im from texas.. ive raised a dozen orphaned tiger cubs.. we re in the congo now.. spent a decade in the amazon.. yes texas has more lions and tigers than most of the world..
and theres a good reason.. we can keep them alive.. weve sent hundreds of endangered animals from afrikka to usa over the last few decades.. in a decade, there wont be any rhinos, lions , tigers and more in afrikka and or asia.. in 3 decades most endangered animals will be extinct in south america.. europe and n america are the safest place for them
