I wonder if the word "normalize", in the way that Ilisa uses it, is meant to operate more like the classical use of the word "tolerate". If so, then…
IF Normalize refers to those features of daily life that are the most commonly familiar (normal) and IF Tolerance refers that particular category of those normal features which, should they antagonize any one or group of individuals would be disallowed but for their service to some prior equilibrium, THEN….. hmmmm……. Could it be possible to confuse the two? …to mistake that which presents it's self as an exception to the rule becomes normalized to a large enough minority that that Neo-normal remains sustained for generations entirely within that particular community?
Legal weed and prostitution have not been normalized. They are not a feature of daily life which are anywhere near as common (normal) as things like working and paying bills. They are tolerated. And this is good. A persistent and effective tolerance of things that in the past would have been too costly to do IS the liberal mind.
Weed is legal now not because it has become a feature of daily life, a norm, but because it has been so easily tolerated.

13:15 – to piggy back on what callens saying : it was tradition in villages to use the church bell tower and a device they installed to keep perfect time across the town. If you were to just go by sound, your synchronization would be off bc it takes longer to get to your ear. So – on church bell towers (which were the tallest thing allowed) they had a weather vein to indicate which way the winds blowing. And you can still find some today with a little red ball on the trunk of the instrument , at the designated hour and day the person pulling the bell would drop the red bad by pulling a pin and everyone who sees would have the correct time as best as they could. This is where the New Years ‘ ball drop ‘ comes from.
