Glad joe got the new set. I get mad at some of the nonsense he entertains, but I’ve never been more genuinely upset than I was after I saw Blackfish. I’m a reluctant expert on cetacean captivity and it never fails to piss me smooth the fuck off. My son is 5 now and we had the chance to go on an Alaskan cruise last year. I never thought I would be a Cruise person, but as it turns out, the booze and blackjack are amazing. 1000% recommend for any multi-generational family, but I digress. Took my kid on two different whale watching trips bc I flat out REFUSE to ever take him to a goddamn SeaWorld or whatever the hell this is. Saw a humpback whale breach on one, saw orcas with their calves on another, my favorite thing of all had to be the sea lions all posted up on this lil rocky cliff though. It was like an animal frat party. Apparently, only the males post up on the rocky area and they were all up there, loud af, and their body language was absolutely incredible. I hate to anthropomorphize animals, but it was behavior I saw thousands of times as a bartender. Had the guide never said “this is JUST the dudes, the females are not included in this,” I would have already known that. In fact, I probably would have asked “is this SOLELY the dudes?”
Anyhow, the thing that pisses me off about Marineland (or any of these parks) is that they claim these are “radical animal rights activists.” LOL, I’m a Texan – born and raisef, went to school in Louisiana. I have killed and eaten animals most people wouldn’t even think to kill or eat. This shit is every bit as evil as dog fighting in my opinion. We love dogs bc an evolutionary survival instinct they had was to become man’s best friend. They’re socialized to be OUR FRIENDS. Same with horses – we don’t eat horses bc they evolved to be our friends. The sea animals who do these amazing things are literally just as highly socialized, but they did it to be with their own, it takes a sick fuck to put a whale in a pool. That takes a real asshat to do that. Anyhow.. yeah..
There’s actually a lot of good that comes from places keeping and caring for these animals, sea world does more for wild marine mammals than any other organization in the world.
