  1. Wrestling may not be as impressive, athletic, or as violent as MMA, however, those margins are extremely thin. Wrestling can sometimes manage to be as athletic MMA, but to a certain degree it suffers from the “sweet science” syndrome, basically meaning that, as JB said, the goal isn’t to nearly kill your opponent like in MMA, but to score as many points as possible while also suffering the least amount of damage.

  2. Can’t blame him. As someone who just spars and hasn’t competed yet, getting head kicked or just sparked by a guy who has nice hands is a very real thing that can happen and it absolutely rattles you. It’s definitely something to get used to coming from other sports where you just have nothing by to compare it too.

  3. I used to train with the greatest freestyle wrestler of all time: Sergei Beloglasov. When ever we brought up Rulon Gardner beating Karelin he was adamant that he believed the Americans paid off the Russians to win. Not sure if this is true but coming from the goat of freestye wrestling it makes me wonder. And to be honest it seems more believable to me than Gardner actually defeating Karelin.

  4. Wrestling isn't a sport that anyone can just go out and play. Boxing and MMA aren't either but they're more exciting to the average person. Plus the rules and scoring system is easier to understand. I give wrestlers props though, it's probably the hardest sport out there.

  5. Jordan is smart enough to realize that getting repeatedly kicked and punched in the head by big strong dudes who want to knock you out cold is not such a good thing. He'll have a brain left in his later years. Smart decision Jordan, stay away from MMA.
