The government already regulates social media. Social media picks and chooses when they want to use those regs and how to use them. The government and All major social media companies are in each others pockets.
If Twitter can legally band a sitting president then any news agency can. This can be dangerous for all Americans if we can't get speeches that we need from the president.
Twitter has much more power than any news agency or newspaper. They have too much influence in American politics and world politics. If they gather our information with out our okay and give it to government agencies then I see they are an arm of the government.
I actually think this issue is way simpler than people make it out to be. Yes they're a publisher but they're also a platform which is like an establishment that's open the public. It can have rules but those rules need to be enforced equitably not arbitrarily. Those rules need to be clear to the users.
They shouldn't be allowed to be a private entity. They should viewed as a public space, and peoples profiles viewed as someone's home where we have the choice to leave the door open or closed. The silencing of one will become the silence of all who do not comply with the dictator's vision.
