A lot of times the "ugly speech" is true.
The old days of the ACLU are gone. They support censorship and vaccine mandates against the will of the people. The lunatics took over.
If anything, hate speech should be embraced with gratitude. Let’s figure out who is a bigot right off the bat. Let’s not give monsters shadows to hide in.
The first steps toward fascism and totalitarianism are to limit people’s thinking and options. When certain points of view are silenced, it is the suppression of an idea. Limiting thinking and options.
No one has to like these awful And hateful ideas. Those expressing these ideas aren’t going to be the next school district superintendent, or even a preschool educator. Having some feelings hurt is a small price to pay for freedom. Especially when the alternative is Orwell’s 1984.
To combat the issue of hate speech, we must not argue about it anymore. We need to promote critical thinking and empathy/compassion. Tolerance and patience can eliminate hate speech by just listening to why whomever has this hate. Listening to them share whatever it may be. And let them be heard. This will end hate speech 11x faster than arguing over whether or not to silence it.
Whoever the current head of ACLU is today they probably think that this guy is a white supremacist.
