Ideology is the reason why his fellow scientist wished the object didnt exist. It clashes with his personal opinion as a singular ape like being on a dot of a planet amidst the universe and he prefers to be right than to wonder. That's very sad and if you think about it, very scary, because we, the people rely on these chaps for our defense. It seems very likely they would rather not tell us something that clashes with their last paper, even though it may effect our lives greatly. That's not science. That's more like religion.
