By striking the Rock once, it symbolized hitting the dead Adam and paving the way for the 2nd Adam (messiah) to appear. By striking it twice, it meant that if the Jews rejected the 2nd Adam, Lucifer could attack and kill him. UNFORTUNATELY, this is what happened, against God's will. This is why Moses committed a great sin. And this is why Moses could not enter Canaan.

1. Exodus: 17:1-7 said hit the rock and will give you water.
2. Number:20.1-7 said speak with the rock but Moses hit rock with rod.
