This is the first time I had no trouble following what a welsh guy was saying.
It's not about you being better than them, he's misunderstood. By offering them money, you're throwing their hospitality back in their face. It really is that simple.
It's OK to offer once or twice, very politely, depending on the situation but upon refusal don't insist.
that's what happens when you don't chase materialistic things. that's what i like about the poor communitys in Estonia. they got food and they got alcohol and that's all they need to be happy
