Hockey made my hip flexors unstoppable and it really helps my bjj game
if you want to be a strong runner, run. if you want to throw hard knees, throw knees. the trick is to those movements is to be trained in a variety of exercises that involve large muscle groups that can only be trained doing complex movements that are similar to what you are trying to accomplish. don't waste your time trying to isolate one muscle in attempt to increase overall strength. squat, deadlift, run, fight. its more about the specific body mechanics you use while doing your niche sport. its been years since I've played football but I can tell my hipflexer muscle is gone since I've stopped playing because I can feel the portion of my pelvis that drops down and it's kind of sharp. Ill tell you I never once worked out my hip flexor. it's a muscle that just comes with the territory of training and being athletic in general. I only ever had a robust hip flexor muscle simply from playing football, running track, and lifting weights. never once did I actually train it.
