As someone who’s grandpa is indigenous I can tell you as a passing white dude it gets super fuckin annoying when every god damn white person is like “dehrrrr I’m Cherokee”… and every time I confront them on it they either freak out or take a test and find out they aren’t. Know how? Because coming from an indigenous family isn’t fuckin fun. My grandfather barely got a 6th grade education and we suffered from generational poverty. Yeah it’s cool to think your Native American because people think it gives you super powers with nature and hunting… when in fact the nature of being indigenous is poverty, misunderstanding, and struggle. This is even more so accurate if you are from a non-popular tribal lineage like my family is , Coahuila Mexico region ~ southern Texas. Even worse so is because I’m about ~20% indigenous and mostly white I get told to shut up with my white privilege when I’m fact my life has not been the same as others around me, my moms worse than mine, and my grandfathers life was extremely tragic growing up.
