I wrestled from elementary school to senior year of high school. I was by no means a high level wrestler and didn’t make it to college wrestling. Love the sport but didn’t take it as seriously as I could have. Looking back my best matches was when warmed up to point of almost being tired. Wish I included warming up more like Gable stressed in the importance of in this video.
I had a high school teacher who was also the wrestling coach. He only stayed at my school for one year, and must have gotten a better offer from another school, because he was an excellent coach. The heavyweight division sported the Illinois State 2nd place finisher (from my school) to Nemsky the Champion. That teacher/coach said he knew Mr. Gable, he may have even went to Iowa State around the same time. I've never forgotten him or Dan Gable.
Chin up Larry Owings, the list of Olympic & World Champions is a whole lot longer than the list of guys who beat Dan Gable.
