Look no further than Japan to see what happens when you have a high suicide rate and you ban guns. Yeah they have a ton less gun deaths because guns aren't something that civilians can carry, but their suicide rate is one of the highest in the world. Look also at knife violence in the UK where owning anything more than a home protection double barreled shotgun is basically impossible.
The ultimate point is that banning guns is just a band aid for the actual problems in society. It's not a weapon problem, it's a people problem, and until we do something about the issues that make people become violent it won't stop happening.
