"Mormons" do nof know everything about your family…they only keep geneological records submitted by your family or published public records (like U.S. Census data etc.)
They do this so that they might conduct proxy baptizm and other religous ordinances and for no other reason.
They also attempt to make contact with every member at least once a year, in order to file acurate membership rosters.
This is not "crazy shit" but sound business and part of being "thy brother's keeper" and a good Christen.
