  1. This is a comment in relation to the whole podcast…

I took a class with Zimmerman at Penn years ago, and I was not really a fan back then, so I decided to listen to the podcast and see what he’s saying now. I do think he made good points about conflating free speech arguments with conservatism, and I find it funny that he self identified as a “liberal Democrat.” He never once said that in class, and I think it would have made a world of a difference, because many of his students did think he was a republican.

I did not think it was due to the free speech argument, more so his agent provocateur nature. In his class, he once compared teachers being fired during the red scare for being alleged communists, to some teacher being fired in Brooklyn for being a pedophile rights advocate. I know several students were deeply offended by this particular class, myself included. I’m not saying we can’t have this discussion, but a heads up would have sufficed. Like “hey, today’s class will include mentions of sexual assault,” that would have been a good warning. Which NO I don’t think everything needs a trigger warning AT ALL, but as someone with PTSD from sexual assault I found it incredibly offensive to be debating weather a pedophile teacher has the same rights as an alleged communist teacher. As an educator myself I struggle to see how this discussion was not him trying to stir the pot, and pat himself on the back for being radically outspoken. If he wanted to really have students debate free speech, I believe that a plethora of other examples would have sufficed or been better than this one.

I really wanted to like his class, and I do think the course materials were very rich in terms of learning this history of education in this country. His provocateur nature not so much, and I would have actually loved to hear his thoughts about Jordan Peterson when Joe brought him up. While I have a mixed opinion here, I do think the podcast was worth listening to, and we do need much more nuance on college campuses.

  2. Free speech? Not on social media, where most folks get their info. Mexico and India data on IM – Can Ivermectin end the Pandemic? How stifling free speech killed a hundred times more people than 9-11.

Rotten Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube blocked and censored mention of Ivermectin, while deplatforming medical experts who dared mention it. Social Media is a Mass Murderer. Everyone whose relative died horribly from Covid should sue social media for suppressing truth that would have saved lives. I wish a top class action firm would think of this. It's a big class. This is lifesaving information the MSM, Govt, and Social Media have stifled. But Social Media is the Worst offender.
