It's not going to be gradual. Labor is one of the biggest expenses for any company. As soon as this stuff is available, you won't be able to compete if you don't automate.
And automation doesn't have to be perfect to have a huge impact. Even a 10% increase in efficiency means 1 out of 10 people losing their jobs in any given industry.
AI and technology are going to affect us in much more profound way than just jobs and quality of life, just how the rise of smartphones correlates with the rise mental health issues, the effect it will have on our psyche is too dangerous, making cyborg people and transcendent people might sound cool but humans are at our best when we put our humanity first.
