  1. a sizable portion of the population not voting for the leader is not a tenant of all democracy or even modern democracies, the electoral mechanisms of the UK and USA with first past the post, single member districts, and majority requirements throughout government create those illusions. Multi-party systems, coalition governments, commission style governments, and others are all examples of how nearly all voters can vote for different parties, candidates, and ideas yet still have a voice in government after formation. Your comment on how there has to be losers in democracy is a very narrow view of the UK and US style of government and does not consider any variation in the mechanisms and style of government that is commonly studied and critiqued in political science.
