what is happening today, is the preliminaries for the revealing of antichrist, the 7 year peace covenant made with Israel. at the end of that 7 years comes Ezekiel 39 and Revelation 19, and Christ comes to deliver Israel from total destruction. Israel enjoys 1000 years of living in peace and safety as Revelation 20 clearly says. at the end of that 1000 years, Satan is released and then we read, Satan goes and deceives the Nations for the very last time, this is when and where the thought comes into Gog's mind. it hasn't been in there for 1000 years, as Satan has been unable to go out and deceive.
this is God drawing Gog with "hooks"…what hooks?…hooks with bait!…the glory and riches that Israel have accumulated over the 1000 years millennium of Christ. Gold silver, flocks herds etc…these are the hooks with their bait that Gog seeks after. Satan has put into the mind of Gog, to go for all that glory…go spoil it says Satan to Gog.
this is exactly what Satan…called Lucifer did, way back, when in all his pride and glory, sought to ascend and take what was not his, "to be like the most high God"
and God causes these armies seen in Ezekiel 38 to fight amongst themselves and God destroys them with fire and brimstone.

Sadly this is a wrong understanding of the scripture.
The Jewish people live in perfect Security BEFORE the Gog and Magog war, without walls, Israel is currently famous for its walls and defenses. Also Israel is supposed to be a land that has put away the use of the sword in that time… so yeah there is only one period where Israel is supposed to be in that state, and thats the end of the Millenial Kingdom, this would also fulfill the requirement that ALL of the jews have returned, we see in the tribulation account that Jews are split between Petra and Jerusalem during the time of Jacob's trouble.
There is only one Gog and Magog war, Ezekiel and Revelation cover the SAME war, this is the common reading of the text.
The battle occurs at the END of the Millenial Kingdom, the Millenial kingdom has no advanced technology because the devastation of the tribulation is so complete that the world has to start from scratch and in the kingdom there are trees whose fruit heals the nations and God said he will change the climate and animals so people can sleep in the forests and in the open without fear, so there is no need for any technology.
This ONE battle of Gog and Magog will occur BECAUSE Satan will be released from bandage, he is the source of the evil plans that arise in the people's minds, he is the hook in the jaw. The seven years of cleanup is the final witness to the world and after the land is cleansed and the witness is complete then the judgement of the white throne happens because the last prophecy has been fulfilled and all the world has been subjected to God for all the remaining rebels have perished in the attack of Gog and Magog.
