I never get arguments like: "The private companies are better, because they don't pay ludacris amounts to contractors." Like sure, there is more of a tendency that this happens in the public sector, but still, once you understand the problem you can fix it, while you can't fix the main problem with private companies: They do what's good for their profit, not what's good for humankind.
NASA's budget never should've been cut so much, it's a shame. I'd almost rather have no space exploration, than private space exploration by greedy companies with only self interest in mind. This will only end badly, with these unaccountable companies deciding the future of humanity.
Space exploration should be a public, national/international effort, uniting us as a people and species in solidarity and common cause. Look at what we accomplished under NASA back in the 60's/70's, imagine where we'd be now if their funding stayed the same. The alternative, long term, is some dystopian shit like the Outer Worlds.

My Government just gave the USA $150Mil (not heaps, but a lot for our country) to help with finding water on Mars. NOBODY CARES!!
