I've always wondered why the change in BJJ from the early Gracie days. If you've ever seen any of their early open gym smokers it looked a lot more like MMA. I wonder if it was the commercialization of it with gyms popping up and focusing for acceptance on the gentle arts aspect of it for a broader audience.
