My grandfather on my dads side was a real Clint Eastwood character; He was in the USMC and served in WW2 primarily the pacific including Iwo Jima, Okinawa then served in the Korean War and finally in Vietnam…. By his time in Korea he was a staff Sargent but towards the end of that war he was moved into Marine Intelligence which at that time wasn’t a pleasant thing. My father was in Vietnam as well but my grandfather was tasked with interrogations of POW combatants, to get information off them.
I met Clint some 50 years ago. Wow that makes me old. This was at the Paramount Studios. I saw him in the actors canteen. He walked right past me and of course I nearly fainted. I asked him for his autograph and he said “Get away from me little girl.” With his famous bad ass facial expression. I started to cry, not realising that he was just kidding. He was very kind and gracious and of course gave me his autograph. I no longer have it but I will always fondly remember him. I probably came up to his knees I was just a wee girl. 🥰
