  1. This pisses me off beyond words. This idea of American exceptionalism is not new. Since the beginning of time the white man has always felt as if his ideology is somehow superior to that of non whites. Melissa Chen says how can these people break out from this indoctrination. But let’s accept this theory for the sake of argument. The U.S, went to Iraq to “:spread democracy”. Can someone remind me what word we use to describe the use of force against a civilian population with the intention of intimidating or coercing them into accepting a social or philosophical ideology? The word is terrorism. That’s the definition of terrorism . The use of force to coerce a civilian population Ito accepting a certain ideology. Notice the choice of words, these people, as if they are animals or some sort of aliens. And of course the message is we need to teach these barbarians the language of the white man, and get them to read the white mans books and only then will they become civilised human beings. Again if you read between the lines she is saying that to believe in Islam is to be ignorant and that these people only believe in Islam because they’ve been kept in the dark, they’ve been deprived of the white mans ideas.

    Melissa go to Lebanon where women are free to do whatever they want, they have secular laws, and no one talks more shit about their politicians and the people in power than they do in Lebanon directly to their faces at times. Yet all that freedom of speech and all that other crap hasn’t stopped people from believing in Islam.

    Maybe just maybe people feel that’s a belief that’s that makes more sense than feminism and all the other isms in parts of the west. Maybe what you view as ignorance others view as wisdom, maybe in other sorts of the world people listen to you and feel sorry for you because your religion has become whatever Garbage the state propagates. Maybe they feel sorry for your because your objective morality is ever changing with the times and therefore not so objective. Maybe they feel bad for you because it’s conceivable that you’ll be cancelled 5 years from now for something you said on this podcast because it was ok when you said but is no longer. Maybe you need to have some books translated from Arabic to English for you to realize that Iraq was once the world leader in education and the maths and sciences. MYbe just maybe your the one whose been indoctrinated by the white mans ideologies. Maybe people in the Middle East don’t need your help. Maybe the best help you can give the people of the Middle East is to stop meddling in their affairs and assuming you know what’s best for them because you possess the ultimate truth, maybe they’d be alright if you would just stop invading their lands and exploiting their natural resources, maybe they’d be fine if you and people of your ilk get the fuck out of the Middle East and take the orientalist garbage with you. Maybe they’d be ok if you stopped labeling every white terrorist a lunatic and putting them In asylums in order to reserve the word terrorist for muslims. Or maybe ignorance is a choice for you, but who knows
