  1. There were many false prophets during this time in their history. God allowed the false prophets to continue as a punishment on the people who listened to them because they did not want to hear anything bad. The false were identified as those who were prophesying opposite of what Jeremiah prophesied. The false prophets were claiming that the people would not be taken captive to Babylon and have to serve king Nebuchadnezzar. But in reality eventually Jeremiah proved to be prophesying the truth, and there was no escaping exile in Babylon for 70yrs. Some tried fleeing to Egypt but all died there as God prophesied through Jeremiah they would if they went there. King Zedekiah and his royal people tried to escape Jerusalem late at night but were captured by Nebuchadnezzar as he was invading. They were still wearing their royal clothing fulfilling the prophecy of Ezekiel that those wearing foreign attire would be judged. God had prophesied through Jeremiah that king Zedekiah would be captured and brought to Babylon but he would never see it. King Nebuchadnezzar caused him to be blinded before they brought him there. (Ezekiel 19:8-9)
